FORMER HARBOURMASTER
TRIBUTE BY THE BOARD Sympathetic reference to the death of Captain H. R. Gibbons, who, between 1913 and 1932, was harbourmaster at Onehunga, was made yesterday at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board by the-chairman, Mr. W. B. Darlow. The chairman said that the late Captain Gibbons had a disposition that won him friends in many walks, of life,, and his passing would be universally regretted. The board stood in silence as a mark of respect, and it was decided to send a letter of condolence to Airs. Gibbons. One of the largest funerals in Onehunga in recent years was that of the late Captain Gibbons at the Hillsborough cemetery yesterday afternoon, the cortege extending for fully one and a-half miles. Many business and social organisations were represented, including the Auckland Harbour Board, the Northern Shipping Company, the Union Steanp: Ship Company. Thames Old 80y5,.;? 1 -Association. Onehunga Orphans' and Bowling Clubs and tho Manukau Masonic Lodge. The burial service was conducted by Pastor Gilbert D. White and Right Worshipful Bro. A. .T. Poplo. the latter delivering the Masonic burial ritual.
