THE MINING MARKET GAINS BY METAL SHARES SHARP RISE IN BARRIERS Base metal shares were lifted from the doldrums by a strong demand in the mining market on tno Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Buyers did not hesitate to raise their limits to obtain their requirements, and in several cases no further supplies were available at the close of the day. Barriers showed the greatest advance, North Broken Hill registering the large gain of 8s 3d on the last transfer a fortnight ago. Broken Hill Souths movod up 4s 3d. The recovery in Mount Lyells was continued and the shares were lifted 9d on sale during the day to a level Is 9d above the previous sale. Mount Morgans also responded to the improved ti/oe. QUEENSLAND INSURANCE HIGHER INTERIM DIVIDEND The Queensland Insurance Company, Limited, has declared an interim dividend at the rate of 9 per cent per annum. This compares with an interim dividend of 4 per cent last year, which, with an increased final rate of 4J per cent, made 8 J per cent for the year.
