DENIAL BY MR. RICHARDS LIFE INSURANCE PAYMENTS "I am sure from what I know of Mr. Adam Hamilton, Mr. Forbes and other responsible members of the National Party that they would not condone tho tactics employed by certain individuals canvassing on behalf of the party," said Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P., addressing a meeting in the Kins George Hall, Mount Albert, on Thursday evening. Mr. Richards was accorded an enthusiastic reception by a large attendance. Dealing with certain aspects, of tho "whispering campaign" against the Government which had been brought to his notice, Mr. Richards said that he greatly deplored tho circulation of suck rumours as that the Government intended to pass legislation enabling it to confiscate 20 per cent of life insurances falling due this year in favour of the social security scheme. "I am astonished that anyone should think tho Government would ever consider such a stupid proposal," said Mr. Richards. After reference to other rumours, Mr. Richards, gave a brief explanation of the Government's policy, with ,special regard to taxation, loans and debt moneys. He also challenged certain statements made by tho Leader of the Opposition in a recent speech at. Hamilton regarding Labour's financial policy. At tho conclusion of the meeting those present passed a motion of thanks and confidence in the Labour Government and its Ministers and in Mr. Richards as their representative.
