VISIT OF TANKER
LARGE BRITISH VESSEL INTERESTING FEATURES SHIP TO CALL AT NELSON Several features of interest attach to the programme on the New Zealand coast of the British motor-tanker Henry Dundas, which left Sumatra last week for Auckland with motor spirit for the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Limited. The Henry JDundas will be the first ship to use the company's new petrol tank at Auckland, and she will be the first overseas tanker to visit Nelson. The greater portion of her heavy cargo of motor spirit will be discharged at Auckland, which she will reach on July 5. The spirit will be pumped into the new tank, whose capacity of 2,000,000 gallons is the largest in Auckland. After discharging here the Henry Dundas will proceed to Wellington and Nelson. The Vacuum Oil Company has recently completed an installation at Nelson, the first suitable for carrying supplies from an overseas ship. Launched last year from the Krupps yard at Kiel, the Henry Dundas is one of the largest tankers to have visited New Zealand. Her gross register is 10,484 tons and she can carry 5,500,000 gallons of cargo in her tanks. The ship is manned by British officers and engineers, the remainder of the crew being Chinese.
