LOCAL BUTTER PRICES
Sir, —Tn your issue of June 13 Mr, Chas. E. McMillan refers to the Hkrald leader of June 8 and says that butter producers, so far as the local market is concerned, will lose anything from £200,000 to £400,000 by being forced to sell the butter to local consumers, but he did not say in his letter that these figures were based on a surplus of £1,000,000 or £2.000.000, which is not the actual position, of the marketing account at the moment Csay, £500,000), and may never be the position of the marketing account. It might be helpful if Mr. McMillan would also take out some figures of what the position would be if the marketing account had resulted in a deficit of £500.000, instead of a jsiirplus 6f £500,000. In any case, I do not admit the position is as stated, but no doubt the Hon. Mr. Nash will give full and proper consideration to the phase of the marketing position, but it is not going to be helped by making deductions that do not clearly state the basis of the argument and particularly give the figures on which the, argument rests.
