WRESTLER BEATEN

FRALEY DISQUALIFIED FAILURE TO RELEASE HOLD VICTORY FOR PAT MEEHAN There was an abrupt termination to a professional wrestling contest at tlio Town Hall on Saturday evening between two Irish-Canadians, Pat Fraley and Pat Median, the referee disqualifying tlio former in the seventh round. After a series of elbow jolts Fraley quickly tripped his opponent and caught him in a flying toehold. Median lost no time in tapping tho mat as a sign of submission and tho 'referee patted Fraley on the back to indicate that a fall had been awarded. Fraley, however, continued to apply pressure and tho referee had to force the men apart. Meehan lay on the mat holding his which appeared to have been injured. Tho referee consulted Meehan and then awarded him the decision. This met with a very mixed reception, Fraley's supporters evidently being of the opinion that, if any disqualification was merited, it should have been done immediately and not several seconds after tho incident occurred. The first fall was obtained by Meehan in the sixth round. Ho had Fraley in difficulties with a bammerlock, tho ropes saving the latter. A second hairfmerlock was immediatelv applied, combined with a wristlock. Fraley submitted and then remonstrated with the referee for not having had him released sooner. New Hold Witnessed The match was a bright one throughout, the earlier rounds being full of solid wrestling, devoid of showmanship. There were some great trials of strength in wristlock exchanges. A figure-four scissors on the arm and wrist troubled Fraley in the second round, but the latter countered very cleverly with the application of a Japanese wrist scissors, this being a hold entirely new to the Auckland public. It compelled Meehan to punch his way out of tho difficulty and ho was warned for such action. There was a willing exchange of forearm jolting in the third round in which Meehan was. warned for punching. Fraley used the ropes to escape from a Boston crab in the next round. After submitting in tho fifth Fraley held his opponent in a strong head scissors for some minutes in the sixth, and then came the ending in the seventh round. This marked Fraley's first defeat in New Zealand. Meehan weighed 16st. 41b. and Fraley 16st. Mr. J. McLean was referee. Prior to the commencement of the bout Lofty Blomfield entered the ring to issue a challenge to the winner.
