LOANS FOR HOUSES

Sir, —One is continually reading reports from officials as to what the Government is doing regarding house building in towns. What about the farming community? Will you allow me to state my case, being the owner of 100 acres freehold, clear of all debts, within 20 miles of Auckland. The Advances Corporation (the Government lending institution) was approached re a small loan to get lumber cut, so a house could be erected on a section, and 1 was advised to apply in writing, which I did. In reply to my inquiry the first statement they made was that no loan would be made on unimproved properties. If I filled in a certain form a valuation would be made, at my expense, though they had already stated no help was available. Then, to my surprise, a letter came from the manager informing me that when property was improved they would be glad to' help me. What help would a man need when his property was improved? Does not freehold property constitute worthy credit? Naturally I am a dissatisfied and disappointed Ex-Labourite.
