HISTORIC PICTURES
GIFT TO AUCKLAND WOR KOF REV. JOHN KINDER NEW ZEALAND SCENES" A gift of considerable historic value made to the Old Colonists Museum by Mr. H. Kinder, of 51 Arney Road, Remuera, was mentioned by the director of the Art Gallery, Mr. J. Barr, at the meeting of the City Council last night. Over a, year ago Mr. Kinder presented to the museum a collection of 48 water-colour paintings of New Zealand scenes made by the Rev.-John KindeV, D.D.
' Mr. Barr said that Mr. Kinder "had now presented a further collection of 51 paintings,.comprising, in addition to sketches of the North Island,-a number of pictures of the South Island. With both collections Mr. Kinder had also provided stands for the proper display of ; the pictures. Mr. Barr said that these collections, the earliest pictures of which dated back to 1855, made one of the most outstanding gifts received by the museum at any time. He recommended that this generous and very valuable gift be accepted. On the motion of the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, the council expressed its thanks to Mr. Kinder for his very generous action. At the invitation of the Mayor, Mr. Kinder was present at the meeting and received the thanks of the council in person.
