FIGHT FOR PRESS FREEDOM [from ottr own correspondent] VANCOUVER, May 11 For the first time the Pulitzer Prize has been awarded outside the United States —to the Edmonton Journal. The prize was awarded for its campaign in mobilising and leading the daily newspapers of 'Alberta to combat the inroads made on the traditional freedom of the press by legislation which was declared tor be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Canada. .It prescribed that newspapers should publish reports issued by the Government on all matters relating to its administration. c . ; Dean Ackerman, of the Columbia School of Journalism, in making the award, said it was the most significant event in the 21-vear-old history of the Pulitzer Prizes for journalism.
