PATTERSON-BAKER SHIELD WHANGAREI TEAM'S SUCCESS [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday The first shoot for the PattersonBaker Shield was held on Monday, when the Whangarei Defence H ifle Club successfully defended the trophy against a challenge from the Oniaua Club. The Hhield was presented by Mr. C. Baker for competition among riile clubs in North Auckland. Results were:—Whangarei: G. Neville, 42 at 300 yds, 40 at 500, 44 at 600, total 132; H Ashton, 44, 44, 44 —132; J. Litchfield, 45, 40, 40—131; W. Norris, 47, 49, 48-144; team total, 039. Omana: P. Palmer, 47. 46. 40—139; R. Palmer, 40, 35, 40—115; W. Love, 40, 40, 42 —128; B. Rod iters, 30. 15, 43 —124; team total, 500. Omana B team; T. C. Palmer, 47, 43, 43—133; S. Keene, •1 2 44, 40 —126; B. Legarth, 2i, 45, 2/—O9; 1. Rountree, 45, 41, 41-127; team total. 4>o. The Campbell-Enrenfried Shield was also shot for, Whangarei winning with a total of 272. Scores were:—Whangarei team: H. BAY OF PLENTY COMPETITIONS [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Tuesday The fifth annual championship prize meeting of tho Bay of Plenty Defcnco Riflo Association was held at the Rangitaiki range yesterday. There was a big gathering of riflemen from the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty. The shooting was of a high standard and three possibles were registered. The weather was bright and sunny, with a tricky fish-tail wind, Mich caused quite a lot ot trouble. C. Kiddie, of Tauranga. won the grand aggregate and a special trophy presented by Mrs. W. Moore and also the Moore championship belt for the Bay of Plenty. The prizes and trophies were presented by Major Eustace, president of the nsssorlation. It was decided to hold tho champion teams meeting at tho Tauranga range on March 17. 1039.
