Taitoa was going very easily at the finish. Merrvmnn (Bowden) slipped over three furlongs in 41 l-ss, the last two in 26 2-ss. His race last Saturday did him good and he looks bright and well for Otaki. Prediction (Tattersall) drew right away from Cuddler (Breuer) over the concluding stages of the five furlongs in .1.8, running the first three in 40 2-ss. Prediction appeared to have something in hand and looks greatly improved. Skyfull and Pango Skyfull (Broughton) and Pango (Anderson) finished on terms at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.8 2-5, the first three taking 41 l-ss. They were travelling well within themselves all the way. Selkirk and Old Bill were given a working gallop over six furlongs in 1.23 3-5. The former is green in his races but he looks well. Taumau (Kowliai) and Puroto (Chaplin) wero companions over seven furlongs in 1.36, the first half-mile in 55 l-sg. Taumau went well for a hurdler. Puroto appears to have escaped injury in the bumpy run she had at Foxton last Saturday. The race has done tier no harm. Quadroon, who is to bo raced at Otaki on Saturday, ran an easy three furlongs and pulled up well. Another out doing a working gallop was the two-year-old Titter, who ran a fine race on Saturday, and appears to be sharpened up. The Buzzer Reappears Looking bright and well after his spell at the Grange Stud, the Auckland Cup winner The Buzzer joined the active brigade this morning, and will shortly enter upon a preparation for the New Zealand Cup. Royal Choice, who has thickened out. appreciably as a result of his let-up, was another worked this morning. Hunting Lore, who is to ho raced by Mr. L. H. Collinson and L. G. Morris in partnership, appears to be improved since he last raced, and lie may come good now lie has started to fill out. The latest addition to G. W. New's stable is a nice-looking yearling colt by Lackham from a mare by Quarantine from Lady Officer. Mr. H. E. Edmunds was present to see his Inflation yearlings from Lady Court and True Step exercised on the inside grass. Both are shapely colts, the True Step one favouring his sire. PERFECT IDEA'S RECORD FIRST WIN IN DOMINION Perfect Jdea, who won the Moutoa Handicap at Foxton after being fancied and failing at Wanganui and Awapuni, secured his first victory in New Zealand and the first training success for the young Otaki trainer; K. 'Webster, I son of his former trainer, A. D. Webster. However, although lie is only a hack performer at six years old, he won six races during a lengthy sojourn in Australia, all but one of the winning stakes being very small. Perfect Idea is full-brother to two high-class mares, Gay Ballerina and La Moderne. Their dam, Lady Ball, a daughter of Demosthenes, was at the Flaxmere Stud and she was bought with ber colt foal at foot by Mr. J. R. Mackenzie and the colt, named Perfect Idea, was secured by Mr. H. ,T. Stanbridge, Hawke's Bay, as a two-vcar-old. Prior to the current season, Perfect Idea had raced only once, as a two-year-old, in the Dominion. lIAWERA ACTIVITIES GOLD GLARE BEATS WINSOME LU [by telegraph—-own correspondent] HAWERA, Tuesday The outside of the course proper was used for fast work this morning. The going was heavy. Prime Quality (Cole) and Lord Cavendish (Monkley) were companions over five furlongs in 1.8. They were the first to work, and the track dried later. Both are to race at Otaki. Notium (Sexton) recorded 1.7 4-5 without being hurried. He is in capital order for Ellerslie engagements, and is to go north to-morrow. Daisy Chain (Colo) slipped over three furlongs in 395. Intentions are to race her at Otaki. For a similar distance Swift Sand (Pepperell) registered 41s. • Gold Glare (Farland) surprised by defeating Winsome Lu (George) over five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. B. La Pouple has been more exacting with Gold Glare of late and the outcome is likely to prove effective. He is a lazy gelding, requiring a strong horseman to keep him up to his tasks. Winsome Lu had the outside running and covered extra ground. J. Brown has a rising two-year-old filly by Van Is from Golden Rod, by Diacquenod. She is owned by Mr. A.
