SILK SOX IMPRESSES SOLID MILE BY VALMINT CLARION CALL FALLS ON FLAT A good mile by the Cornwall Handicap candidate Valmint, and sound efforts by Kilonsa and Tybalt were features of the gallops at Ellerslie yesterday, when the going was heavy on the No. 1 grass and tho poles wero out 10ft. A good display of jumping was given in a bout over the country by Clarion Call, who unfortunately stumbled and fell after jumping tho sodwall, Jolly Beggar and Hirangi. Silk Sox did best of tho hurdlers, who had tho uso of hurdles 011 tho outsido of tho course proper. On tho No. 1 grass, Kilonsa (McTavish) and Land Girl (Fearn) wero together throughout six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, the first three being run in 41 2-ss. Kilonsa looks well, and went attractively. With Bonnybeilo (Fearn) to assist over the first half-mile, Knight of Australia (Tremain) and Wee Pat (Clarke) traversed seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5, tho last six in 1.23 3-5. After being well in tho rear early, Knight of Australia finished well to be alongsido of Wee Pat at the conclusion. Weo Pat went surprisingly well. Bronze Wing Goes Well Bronze Wing (Metcalfe) and Aymon (Gallagher) finished together several lengths in front of Palmint (Fearn) at the end of five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, tho first two in 27 l-ss. Bronze Wing was doing his work comfortably, -and is promising. Bright Idea (Buchanan) and Master Appellant (Stokes) ran an easy live furlongs in 1.16. Wotan (Dulieu) sprinted tho last three furlongs of his work in 38 4-ss, and finished Wotan is in good heart, and handled the going well. All Irish (Gough) was too good for Windsor Lass (Tremain) over a round in 2.G 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.30 3-5. Sureila (Wiggins) sprinted three furlongs in 38 4-ss, hitting out very freely. Mundane (Craig) ran the last three furlongs of her work in 43 3-ss. El Meynell (Green) was easing up at tho end of a round in 2.8 4-5. Love Parade (Wiggins) was timed to run tho last five furlongs of his work in 1.15 2-5. Crooning (Tremain) pleased by accounting for Prival (Walker) over six furlongs in 1.22, the first three being run in 40s. Crooning has impressed in her latest work at Ellerslie, and is returning to form. Jack Tar (Fearn) ran seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5, and went nicely. His public form has been disappointing. Fleetwind (Gilchrist) was never at top to register 1.13 2-5 for fivo furlongs. Hessketoon (Jones) finished clear of Electric Spear (Fearn). Tupeotu (Vaughan) and Summary (Ritchie) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, the first, two in 26 3-ss. Hessketoon went well. Ohmaha (Murray) and Te Hai (Manson) were together throughout three furlongs in 445. Valspear (Tremain) j worked strongly, but was not after time. Tybalt Finishes Strongly Tybalt (Gilchrist) was finishing strongly at the end of seven furlongs in 1.35 3-5, He ran the first four in 54 3-ss, and handled the going well. Valmint (W T iggins), who covered a lot of ground, impressed by finishing clear of Waitaka (Jones) at the end of a milo in 1.50. Waitaka made the pace ! over the first half in 555, but Valmint j moved up at the turn .and camo away j in the straight. Valmint is closo to ! form. The' novices Gold Land (O'Connor) : and Loyal Grant (Hearno) sprinted j three furlongs in 42 2-ss. Disturbed (Gallagher) finished better than Mai de Mer (Vaughan) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.35, tho first three in 40 l-os. Disturbed is an improver. j Huskio (Mateer) got through strong work over a couple of circuits. He looks fit. Alyth_ (Gilchrist) strode over six furlongs in 1.23 4-5, the first three taking 41 3-ss. Shy (Fearn) beat School Song (Vaughan) over five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, the first two being run in 275. Shy did not seem to be troubled by the going and went pleasingly. Ivilladar (Vaughan) was travelling comfortably in front of My Money (Fearn) at the conclusion of a rouncl in 2.2 1-5. Riotous strode over a round in 2.14 1-5. • Professional (Gough) jumped four of the usual schooling hurdles safely. Arikira (Baker) set out to jump four hurdles with Ground Swell (Nicolson), but after clearing the first threw his rider at the next. Ground Swell continued and jumped the remaining fences satisfactorily. Arikira afterwards ran half a mile in 54 3-ss. Bass (Fergus) jumped four hurdles going at a sound pace throughout. He looks a promising hurdler. Jolie Dance (Stokes), jumping slowly, negotiated six hurdles in the middle. High Star Shapes Nicely On the course proper, Silk Sox (Dulieu),. High Star (Williams) and Porotiti (Fergus) were associated over five hurdles. Over the first three", Porotiti and High Star were well clear of Silk Sox, who moved up and led over the last hurdle from High Star, who was clear of Porotiti. Silk Sox was responsible for a sound display. High Star also shaped nicely. The Trimmer (R. K. Smith) fell heavily at the first fence when sent out to school and was not persevered with. Flis rider received a very severe shaking- - ~ Clarion Call (Beale). Jolly Beggar (Ridgwav), Hirangi (Watson), Tahae Mea (Gough) and United (Craddoek) wero companions in a schooling task over the steeplechase course. , Clarion Call and Jolly Beggar cleared the double, sodwall and brush fenee together in front of Hirangi, with 1 abac Mea and United in the rear. At the double on top of the hill Clarion Call. Jolly Beggar and Hirangi were bunched and'they kept in this order until crossing the sodwall at tho top of the straight, where Clarion Call knuckled over several strides after landing and came to grief. Hirangi and Jolly Beggar gave good displays. Jahae i\lea was a long way back, while United refused at the first of the double 011 the hill. Clarion Call schooled perfectly until lie lost bis footing and was unfortunate to fall after jumping the fence cleanlv. He did not appear to sustain any' injury, although he was later reported a little tender. Clarion Call showed great cleverness after falling by jumping one fence of the double with one leg through the reins. RACISS AT SHOWS REMIT FROM MORRINSVILLL [from our own correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday A remit requesting that the Racing Conference be asked to amend tho rules of racing so as to permit the holding of hack races foi unregistered horses and riders at agricultural and pastoral shows was approved at an executive meeting of the Morrinsville Agricultural and Pastoral Society. The remit will bo forwarded to the Northern District Council of tho Royal Agricultural Society.
