WINTER MEETING

LATEST ARRIVALS royal limond appears MISHAPS IN SCHOOLING MONDAY'S STARTING TIMES Except for the arrival of several visitors, there were no important developments yesterday in connection with the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting, which opens at Ellerslia next Monday. Tho latest arrivals include Royal Limond and Power Chief, who came from Awapuni under the care of A. McDonald. Royal Limond and Power Chief made an appearance on tho track soon after their arrival, and were allotted steady work on the sand. Both are in fine condition, and Power Chief appears a very likely type of hunter. Clarion Call has been by no means lucky on his previous visits to Auckland, as he was injured on tho iirst occasion, audi on tho second fell at the last fence in tho Great Northern Hurdles when, the race was at his mercy. Misfortune again pursued him yesterday, when, after giving a brilliant display over a round of the country, he knuckled over soon after jumping the sodwall and fell heavily. Fortunately, he and his rider, R. Beale, escaped serious injury, although he • was reported to be a little tender later. The jockeys F. E. Baker and R. K. Smith received nasty falls in tho course of schooling operations at Ellerslie yesterday, and several minutes elapsed before either could riso from the ground. Fortunately, neither was seriously injured, although both were severely shaken, and Smith had to be conveyed to his homo. Baker received his fall from. Arikira, and Smith from Ike Trimmer. Starting times arranged for tho first day of tho meeting are as follows: 11.15. —Jervois Handicap (first division). 11.55. —Green Lane Steeplechase. 12.35. —Jervois Handicap (second division). 1.20. —Penrose Hurdles. 2.5. —Great Northern Hurdles 2.50. —Cornwall Handicap. 3.30. —Hunt Club Hurdles. 4.15. —Members' Handicap. VALAMITO GALLOPS EFFORT WITH FLOOD TIDE No times were taken at Takanini yesterday, the going being very wet after heavy r4in overnight. Valamito (Bart]e) and Flood Tide (A. Tinker) were companions in a gallop. Valamito .finished much better than his companion, who was giving away considerable weight. A. Tinker will ride Flood Tide in the Cornwall Handicap. The inquiry that brought about the sentence was instituted after the running of the Harrisville Handicap at Pukekohe on the date mentioned. On the evidence tendered and from its own observation the committee found Mclnally guilty of careless riding, in that he crossed Gay Streak on Vaalso, who ran second to Barrister, with Gav Streak third. The committee also reversed the judge's placings of Vaalso and Gay Streak. RACING DAYS OVER GIVEN AWAY Mr. A. H. Trotter gave Davistock iway at Foxton on Saturday to a Marton friend on the understanding ihat he will end his days as a hack.
