BOXING
AMATEUR TOURNAMENTS NEW MEMBERS ELECTED Permission was granted the Whakatane Catholic Association to hold a tournament on June *25 at last evening's meeting of the executive of tho Auckland Boxing Association. A letter was received from the Northern Wairoa Military Association advising that a tourney would be held on July 10. It was decided to offer assistance and to endeavour to have prominent Auckland amateurs compete at the tournament. The secretary reported that tho North Shore Rugby Football Club intended to hold an amateur tourney to-night and that the Papatootoe Boxing Club would bo holding a similar tourney to-morrow. He said that the visiting professionals, A 1 Clark and Cyril Pluto, would give exhibitions at both tournaments. It was decided to make an effort to induce Young Gildo to visit Auckland for a match with Al Clark, probably on Juno 'JO. A cup was donated by Mr. Cr. H. Herbert, and it was agreed to award this to the winner of tho light-heavy-weight division at tho Auckland championships. Tho following were elected members of tho association:—Messrs. R. Rennie, W. S.vred, L. Williams, L. Rogers, S'. j. Hedley. WIN FOR HENNEBERRY SYDNEY, May 31 At tho Sydney Stadium last evening Fred Henneborry outpointed tho American boxer Ken Overlin. It was a 12-round bout and the decision had a mixed reception. Newspaper writers also disagree with tho verdict. The weights were: Honnebcrry, list r>!b; Overlin, list 71b.
