STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BANK SHARES EASIER Although a slight improvement was shown after the weakness displayed the previous day, business was again very quiet in the investment market on tlio Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Selling pressure was less evident, however, and, although support was still weak, oilers for several issues advanced a shade. That caution is still a dominating factor was indicated by the strong inquiry for gilt-edged and general issues improved during the day. Banks also gave an indication of tho general hesitancy of the market. Commercials of Australia and Nationals of New Zealand both were marked down, . while support for New Zealands weak- • ened after two'transactions at an advance, and further business was done at laic rates. There wero no offers for Commercials of Australia at the close, and buyers had reduced their limits for .Nationals of New Zealand. Insurances also tended easier. Leading industrials »were a shade firmer. Broken Hill Proprietary changed • hands at late rates, and more wero wanted at tho close. Uliers for Electrolytic Zincs also were higher. Support for Colonial Sugars improved, and sellers reduced limits, but no business was recorded. Glass and ■'British Tobacco both tended easier, but holders.of G. J. Coles hardened. There was a marked advance in quotations for Taranaki Oil.
