HORSE POWER CHECKED GOOD BROTHER TO WRACKLER MERIT OF SPECIAL EDITION [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHTJRCH, Sunday The Winter Handicap provided a great race and a most exciting finish and, while Waipahi ran well, it seemed that Horse Power was unlucky. After being well back in the early running, lie received a bad check three furlongs from home. Morewa and Waitaki Power made most of the running, with Harlequin and AVaipahi handy. Belle Gratt.au, who lost much ground at the start, showed great speed to join tho leaders six furlongs from home. Horse Power was third into, the straight, and just failed tr> withstand a final run by Waipahi. Morewa had had enough at the finish and Harlequin was fourth, ahead of Golden Cross, Toorak and Mystery Yet. The Juvenile Stakes attracted twelve two-vear-olds, the only withdrawal being Shadow Son. Aldershot, a wellgrown brother to Wrackler, was a good favourite and ho behaved like a veteran. Followed by Scenic Gem, Worthy Empress, f'cntaunis, Coquette and Special Edition, he made nil the running and was not extended to beat Special Edition, who was followed by Scenic Gem, Coquette, Centaurus and Revision, Aldershot is now likely to be a warm favourite for the Sapling Stakes, but there was merit in the performance of Special Edition, who finished vorv fast. More than useful are 1?. B Berry's three. Worthy Empress, Centaurus and Axspear. TOUT LE MONDE'S END DROPS DEAD SCHOOLING (Received May 2!), 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE.
