FINAL AWAPIJNI WORK EREBUS AND GREAT HOPE : " I l : : ; . .FIVE FURLONGS ON PLOUGH [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] , -PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday Erebus and' Great Hope again carried off the sprinting honours in the final trials:at Awapuni this morning with a smart five furlongs on the plough and their trial drew attention to their prospects* in the Mcßae Handicap on Saturday. The outside of the course proper, where the flags were out 50 feet, was dead after heavy dew, but Old Surrey and Conveyer went well over six furlongs. Sporting Gift, who has improved considerably since racing at Woodville, covered three furlongs in 38 3-ss, finishing very nicely. Taitoa and Sporting Luck came home from the three furlongs in 39 3-ss. Prediction finished clear of Cuddler at the end of half a mile run in 54 l-ss, the first quarter taking 27 2-ss, while Dainty Sue and High Peer recorded 54. 2-ss, the last three in 40 3-ss. lia Premiere, Old Bill and Thracose took 555. Quadroon and Bluffer Quadroon and Bluffer pleased by running live, furlongs Jn 1.7 1-5, the last twf) in 25 3-ss. Noisy Night covered the journey in 1.7 3-5. Gation was going comfortably to record 1.12, sprinting, the last two in 27 l-ss. He is a line, big gelding by Oration from a Gazeley mare, but is still green. Old Surrey and Conveyer were at speed when they passed the six-furlong post and they maintained the pace all, the way to run 1.19 2-5. The first quarter took 2(3 3-ss, and the first half-mile, 535. Both went exceptionally well.

Warehi secured the best start and always had the advantage throughout seven furlongs with Aurora's Love and Aero Lad run in 1.37, the first five flirtings occupying 1.9 3-5. HOLLYWOOD RACECOURSE OFFICIAL OPENING JUNE 13 The Hollywood Turf Club's track, which has cost £500,000, is to be opened officially on June 13. The first carnival, which "will last for. 33 days, will include about a dozen big races, the prizes ranging in value from £SOO to £IO.OOO. The chief event will be the Hollywood Gold Cup, which will be ,worth, about £13,000. This is a race for three-year-olds and over, the distance being ten furlongs. The /landscaped track covers 315 acres and has stalls for 1250 horses, with accommodation for 60,000 patrons. The owners of the course are all connected with the fi}m industry. ' WIN FOR ORBY LAD CORRECTED BLENHEIM RESULT In the telegraphed report of tho second day of the Marlborough Pacing Club's meeting it was stated that the Wither Trot Handicap had been won by Ando Girl, driven by W. Warren. The race was wou by Orby Lad, who was coupled with Audo Girl, and was driven by his owner, E. E. Edmonds. Orby Lad paced a mile and a-quarter in 2.54 3-5.

C. 11. GOODALL'S TEAM RETURN OF BARON ALFONSO C. H. Coodall is keeping Fernbrook Lass going with a view to the Adams Memorial Cup and C. F. Mark Memorial Handicap at the Auckland June meeting, and the Author Dillon marc, who showed a glimpse of her old form when second to Nervie's Last in the Alexandra Park Handicap, races well xinder winter conditions. Militia, a mare by Our. Thorpe from Mufti, who created a' favourable imoression on her first appearance, is making steady progress, as is the maiden trotter Master Teddy, an Australian-bred gelding by Win Alto—Julia Maud. Latest addition to Goodall's team is Baron Alfonso, who won two years ago for F. J. Smith. Baron Alfonso is by Frank Worthy from Genita, darn of Wiriwata. A Peter Bingen filly, fullsister to Ranfurly Lass, and a filly by Great Parrish —Manna, half-sister to Manna's Son and Mountain Flight, are being educated by Goodall.

IMPORTED TROTTERS F. J. SMITH'S YOUNG HORSES Among a number of young horses in F. J. Smith's stable at Takanini are three American two-year-olds and a rising two-year-old Australian' colt.' ,One of the American importations is a straight-out trotter by Peter Lincoln, sire of Jay Lincoln 2.1 i, Josedale 2.1|, and Linworthy, 2.2 i, from Calumet Beads, by Truax, 2.3J, sire of Calumet Chester, 2.02, and Calumet Butler, 3-year-old record, 2.2}. Peter Lincoln is by Peter- the Great from Miss Victoria, dam. of Mabel Tro.sk 2.1£. Truax is a son of Guy Axworthy..The colt is of the same family as Peter Scott, grand-sire of IT. Scott.

Another colt, a pacor, is by Grattan McKinnev, sire of Grattan Bars, 1.59, Louie Grattan, 2.0, and Widow Grattan, 2.0, from Zella McKinneyj, a mare who produced numerous standard pacers and trotters. Miss Behvin, 2.21, by Behvin, 2.6, sire of Mcrriman, 2.0, Betternin, 2.1J, Labrador, 2.1J, and many others, is also dam of Zella McKinnev. The third of the Americans is a filly by Grattan McKinney from Flirtation by Morgan Axworthy, a son of Axworthy and Kinglyle, the latter, a sister to Bingen Error, dam of Flirtation, is bv Peter the Great.

The Australian colt is by Robert Derby, siro of Lawn Derby, from Ella Huon, by Bock Huon. by fiuon Junior, son of Huon, from the Vancleve mare Greta. Robert Derby is by Globe Derby, whoso grand-sire, Globe, was also by Huon. Honest Kate,»dam of Robert Derby, is by Honest Harry—Kate Osterley.
