KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH IN FORM
SOUND ESSAY WITH BEDFORD
VANORA RETAINS CONDITION
BY ABAYDOB
Heavy rain marred track trials at Epsom yesterday, when horses with engagements at the Caipbridge meeting were worked on the cinders the left-hand way. With the exception of Kewpie's Triumph; Bedford and Kewpie's Queen, all pacers worked unhoppled. Assisted by Kewpie's Queen (W. Gee) on the last mile and a-quarter Kewpie's Triumph (K. Bell) and Bedford (D. Smith) covered a mile and a-lialf in 3,46. Bedford led a furlong from home, but Kewpie's Triumph shaded him, running the last; 10, furlongs in 3.5. Kewpie's Queen, who went 3.7, was not discredited in being, headed by tho more experienced pacers. _Munga Tangt in Saddle Vanora (L. J. Mahoney) and Sequoia (W. Fleming) were together for a mile and a-quarter, where the latter left his feet, Vanora going on to record 3.50. He retains his condition and has prospects in his next start. • ' Munga Tangi (L. Laver) was worked two miles in saddle. He has performed well under winter conditions. Bismuth (11. McGarry) went smoothly over a mile and five furlongs at a 2.30 irate. He did not race to expectations at Hamilton and his proposed trip to Wapganui has been cancelled. Great Surprise (Laver) trotted solidly over a mile and a-lialf. He will bo given a test over two miles at the Cambridge meeting. Star Pronto (B. Dyer) and Autumn Lu (G. H. Stubbs) worked a little over a mile together, when the trotter retired," Star Pronto going another six furlongs at a 2.28 rate. He should be in good order for the Adams Memorial Cup, in which .race he was third last year. Tommy McElwyn Improved Tommy McElwyn (A. McKenzie) was running on well at the end of a. mile and a-lialf, and is showing improved stamina. Kewpie's Crest (Gee) was allotted strong work at two miles, running the last 10 furlongs iji 3.9. He is in good heart and usually runs best in the winter.
Worthy Quest (Stubbs) and Auto Machine (A. Brown) were together at the .end of a mile, when the latter pulled up, and Worthy Quest was sent a mile at the gallop. *. L. J. Ma honey gave Luminate, Pirate's Last and Golden Maid work oil the sand. The last-named, who has not raced much since winning last June, is assuming good shape. Pirate's Last does not look as bright as formerly.
Lucky Love (J. Peters) worked a mile aiid a-half.- He has never been in better condition, and will have his first race over two miles at the Cambridge fixture. Jewel Crest hit out for six furlongs'. Ho is not at home on holding tracks.
