HORSES STILL NEEDED
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS SUBSIDIES FOR STALLIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday Subsidies for the owners of stallions up to but not exceeding a maximum of £l5O a year are provided for in tho remount subsidy regulations, issued under the Remounts Encouragement Act, 1914, published with the Gazette to-night. The regulations authorise the Minister of Agriculture to appoint remount committees as the need arises. Each committee is to consist of threo members, holding office during the pleasure of the Minister, and appointed under consultation with representatives of the executive committees of tho Royal Agricultural Society, the New Zealand Racing Conference, tho New Zealand Trotting Conference, and tho \New Zealand Hunt and Polo Associations. Their functions will be to select and recommend stallions for a subsidy, to define districts under tho scheme, and generally to do whatever in the opinion of the committee may bo necessary for the effective administration of the regulations. The regulations also provide for an inspection of stallions by members of the committee, who are required to report whether or not in thoir opinion an animal is of a . typo whose progeny would be suitable for military purposes. Tho Minister will decide nfter considering the reports of the committee and the Government veterinarians whether a subsidy should be granted in respect of a stallion, and his decision is final and binding on all the parties.
