NEW GUINEA SHAKEN
SMALL TIDAL WAVE FOLLOWS •SOME DAMAGE AT SALAMAUA (Received May 13, 8.35 p.m.) RABAUL. May 13 An earthquake occurred at Salamatia, on the north-eastern New Guinea coast, at 1.40 this morning, and it was followed by a small tidal wave. Some wooden houses collapsed, but nobody was injured. The water rose over the Customs Wharf, washing away objects on the foreshore. Earth tremors also occurred at Madang and Wan, withcxut damage. It will be recalled that Salamaua is the site favoured for the capital to replace Rabaul following the disastrous eruption which begau on Maj' 29 last year.
