WAGGONS DERAILED
SHUNTING MISHAP ONE TRUCK CAPSIZED INCIDENT AT ROTORUA [by telegraph OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Friday Three loaded waggons left the rails and one containing coal was capsized against a corrugated iron fence on the boundary of the Shell Oil Company's property, as a Tesult of the partial derailment of a rake of trucks which were beiflg shunted in the Rotorua railway station yards this morning. In all 35 waggons, the majority of which contained timber, were being shunted by an AB engine along one of the lines on the southern side of the station yards. Although the brakes were applied, the train failed to respond, with the result that the rear waggon struck the concrete buffer at the end of the line. The buffer was uprooted and thrown for some yards.
The rear waggon left the rails, crashing into the corrugated iron fence and capsizing. The load of coal was strewn in all directions. The two following trucks containing furniture and timber were also derailed, but did not capsize.
