1200 Cow Hides Used Daily at Cowley
Mass production and figures are synonymous. It is impossible to leave the Morris works, at Cowley, for instance, without being impressed by tho amazing facts associated with this great section of the British motor-car industry. The number of cow hides used every day totals 1200. Tho metal employed at Cowley every year is 70,000 tons, or enough to build two large liners. Tho safety glass fitted annually to tha cars would cover 16£ acres, if placed side by side; 2500 tons of rubber are used annually. Some 300 concerns, each a specialist in its own class of goods, are employed in the production and components for Morris cars. The averago number of parts in a complete car is 19,000. There are approximately 90 different types of standard vehicles and chassis, •,passenger and commercial, incorporating over 30 different colour schemes.
Two thousand miles of packing boards, suffiicient to stretch right down India from north to south, or across Australia from Perth to Melbourne, are used in a year for crating Morris vehicles, together with 35 tons of assorted nails, 20 tons of waterproof paper, and 14,000 yards of protective felt.
