FRENCH VISITORS
SOCIAL EVENING HELD THE MERCANTILE AUXILIARY An enjoyable receptiou was held by the Mercantile Auxiliary Club last night in honour of the petty-officers of the Rigault de Genouilly. Bowls of bronze chrysanthemums gave a bright tone to the club rooms.
The guests were received by the vicepresident, Mrs. PL L. Burton, who wore a frock of mauve taffetas, and Miss Joyce Dickey in mist blue lace. A speech in French to welcome the guests was made by the hostess for the evening, Miss Ivie Jennings. Enjoyable dance items were given by Misses Gwen Bartrum and Betty Dickenson, and amusing French monologues were given by Miss Mary Pilkington and Monsieur Charles Maire. Items were also given by the visitors, the following contributing:—Monsieur Lobbee, Monsieur Kermel, Monsieur Raude, Monsieur Caradoux and Monsieur Levenez. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. At the supper interval the officer in charge conveyed the thanks of the visitors for their very pleasant evening.
