GRADUATION BALL
GAY UNIVERSITY SCENE informal celebrations A POPULAR FUNCTION The formality which was observed at. the graduation ceremony in the Town Hall last night was dispensed with at the function which followed at the University College, when the students and their friends in large numbers attended the annual graduation ball. The finale to capping day, it is an event always notable for its popularity and enjoyment, and last night's occasion was 110 exception. The assembly hall and library were both used for dancing, and the entrance hall was arranged as a lounge with comfortable chairs. In the first hall the decorations comprised a large blue drop-scene representing the sky. a touch of realism being given by the twinkling silver stars with which it was liberally bestrewn. A similar dropscene, differing only in shape, was placed at the back of the orchestral dais in the library, this being ornamented with the New Zealand and Auckland University shields. Supper was served in the common rooms and lecture rooms, where bowls of attractive flowers adorned the tables.
The Graduands

Barr, petunia chiffon; Miss Jean Mor-ton-Smith, apple grepn taffetas: Miss Grace Kniveton, navy floral silk with an Indian sequinned coatee; Miss Lorna Black, duchess blue taffetas and silver lame; Miss Murielle Smeed, white angelskin satin flowered in autumn shades; Miss Betty Hope, turquoise blue pleated net over taffetas; Miss Shirley Entriean, black and gold lacquered taffetas; Miss Joyce Thomp*son, ciel blue taffetas.
