FASTEST SPRINTING TRIAL GOOD EFFORT OVER FENCES Tho outstanding feature of tho work at Ellerslie yesterday morning was splendid schooling arid a smart sixfurlong gallop by the jumper, All Irish. The No. 2 grass was used for fast work, the going being good. After running the first three furlongs in 41 l-ss, Knight of Australia (Clarke) completed six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. Ho was travelling evenly throughout and could have done better. Palmint (Fearn) finished tho last thrco furlongs of useful work in 40 4-ss. Inability to begin well in his races has prejudiced his chances up to date. Aero King (McTavish) strode over five furlongs in 1.9 4-5, tho last three in 41 3k>s. Ho was going comfortably and is in first-rate order. Wee Pat (Clarke) camo homo strongly, tlie last four furlongs of her work at threequarter pace. She has been getting through pottering work for some time and gives every indication of staging a comeback this winter. High Star Retains Condition High Star (McTavish) went at strong three-quarter pace over six furlongs. He worked with freedom arid should go on to further success as a hurdler. Bright Idea (Buchanan) was timed to run the last three of six furlongs in 42 3-ss. Ho was doing it easily and looks a likely improver. Electric Spear (Fearn) pleased by recording 52 2-5s lor half a mile, tho first furlong taking 12 4-os. This Spear. Dance—Lady Electra gelding has improved with his recent rating and now shows distinct promise. The Trimmer (Tucker) finished in front of Summary (McTavish) overfive furlongs in 1.6 2-5, the first quarter in 25 2-ss. The Trimmer has speed, but disappointed at Pukekohe last week. Mundane (Craig) was Under a food hold to run six furlongs in 1.27 -5. She looks well after her Pukekohe race. Ohmaha (Murray) was finishing strongly at the end of half a mile in 535. Te Hai (Watson) and School Song (Cammick) sprinted the last three furlongs of their work in 395, with Te Hai doing the better. In a similar task Valmint (Murray) registered 41 l-ss. He is bearing an improved appearance after his race at Pukekohe and should be in fine trim for the June meeting at Ellerslie. Alyth Gallops Smoothly The best gallop of the morning was credited to All Irish (Cammick), who covered, six furlongs in 1.18 4-5, the first three being run in 38 3-ss. He was running on strongly and it was a good performance for a jumper. V. ' .-/ Shy (Nicolson) ran half a mile'irt 52 4-ss, the last three in 38 4-ss. Ho finished well and looks better: now -than he has done for some time. Alyth (Gilchrist) traversed six furlongs in 1.20, tho first three taking 40s. She went very evenly and should be in good trim for her WaikatQ engagements. The Illumination mare, Tanya (Watson), displayed natural ability in a school over four hurdles. Tupeotu (Butterworth) cleared eight hurdles in safe manner, but did not have much pace. Neil (Stokes) and My Money (Stewart) were companions in a bout over four of the steeplechase fences on the flat." v POLISHED FENCING LUCIDUS AND BRYCE STREET [BY TEIiEOKAPH OWN CORRESPOND F.NT] HAMILTON, Thursday The going on tlio course proper, 66ft. out from the rails, provided an excellent surface at Te llapa this morning. The best gallops were those of Hunting Blood over six furlongs and Whirling over half a mile. The steeplechase course and hurdle track were also open, Lucidus and Bryce Street giving an attractive display over a round of the country. Abbey Lass (R. Cotter) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.8, doing her work well. Prince Uangi (F. Hain), Master Brierly (J. Winder) and Valpai (A. Bootsina) finished as named at the conclusion of a round in 2.11 2-5, their final five furlongs occupying 1.12. In a similar essay, Kilberis (A. Gilmer) finished clear of Windsor Lass (W. Thomson) in 2.12 2-5. Light Comedy (A. Anderson), who is all the better for racing at JPukekohe, ran seven furlongs in 1.37, cutting out her final six in 1.23 1-5. Whirling (Gilmer) r finished a length and ahalf in front of Rollicker '(H. ~Long)i who got his tongue over the bit, at the completion of half a ;ni,le.run iu 535. Whirling did'his work well/ ' Hunting Blood (Thomson) recorded 1.21 4.-5 tor six furlongs—the best for the* distance. M. J. CfliToH'g charge pleased. Solomon (Winder) and Cappy (Thomson) hit out together over five, furlongs in 1.8. Orwere beat Free Advice over half a mile in 55 4-5s —a, useful elfort for horses of their class. Inness Lad (11. Cotter) and Orac (P. Bradf) were associated over • four hifrdies. Orac risked the second and crashed through the middle panel of the third, but Brady escaped injury. Inness Lad is to contest the Waikato Hurdles, in which he will be ridden by Cotter. ' A polished exhibition of fencing was given bv Lucidus (Brady) and Bryce Street (Gilmer) over a round of the steeplechase fences, both handling their work in great style. Outspan (Bradley), was accompanied by Mana (J. H. Muir) over four fences, Maria running off at' the last, the brush leading out of the straight.

RUNNING OF CATALOGUE ; an inquiry instituted, [by telegraph —own correspondent] WANGANUI, Thursday At the conclusion of the race for the Corinollv Handicap to-day an inquiry was instituted by the chief stipendiary steward, Mr, C, Gomer, into the running of Catalogue, who eventually finished in third place. The inquiry was adjourned until after tho last race and finally held over until Suturday morning. It is understood that tho connections of the horse are not involved.
