TAKANINI ACTIVITIES FLOODTIDE'S PROGRESS * EDUCATION OF YEARLINGS ATTRACTIVE FOXBRIDGE -FILLY After a white frost, yesterday morning was-beau'tifully bright at Takanini. The outside grass and plough were in good order. All gallops were done the left-hand way, with a view to. the meeting at To Rapa. Valamito and Floodtide worked together over seven furlongs in 1.35. The former, who had the inside running, appeared to finish slightly the better. Both horses look very well and a few more gallops should bring Floodtide to his best. He is a good galloper, especially when-the going is easy. , •High Sea (Clifford) was finishing better tlian Silver Glow (G. Smith) at the end of seven furlongs. High Sea has put on condition since he last raced. . '" .
Others to do useful work were Gratefal, who has never looked more solid, and Rayjana, whose racing at Pukekojie had no ill-effects. A black yearling by Foxbridge, and a chestnut filly, a half-sister, to Hot Box, worked 1 together. The Foxbridge colt looka very healthy and is a good-look-ing horse. Hot Box's relation does not resemble him, and she is much smaller than he was at the same age. W. H. Paterson has three horses in work—a yearling filly, a three-year-old gelding, and a hunter by Lucullus— Mis Flos. The last-named ran at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting and won a point-to-point race. The three-year-old, by Surveyor, was broken in last January and has come to hand very quickly. He dishes a. deal when trotting, but moves welUn fast work. The yearling sister to War Picture, who is now a polo pony, has developed quickly and already takes a keen interest in. her
.Work. - ..... . A, Quinlivan. has a team of three, thef Steeplechaser, Wykeihisi, a good jumper; Huntsman's Chorus,. who wi.ll be- restricted to flat racing for the present, and Asset. The most attractive yearling at Takftnini at present is the filly by Foxbridgfe from thia successful brood mare, Lady -Marie. She is well-mannered, and mov6d very : attractively over a furlong up the back. The fill}' in hard to. fault. Miss 1 Lovelock, a sister to Floodwho .has been spelling since she returned, from Australia in November, has resumed work. She. has not grown a great deal. Mte Acrea (o*. Walters), Chief Lap (T; v Green) and a five-year-old gelding by Oration—Mystical Rose (P. Mcllroy) were schooled. The two first gave a good exhibition over four hurdles, bu't the Mystical Hose gelding, who hns lately joined the team * <?f C. Morse, ran off at the second fence and fell outside the track. He seenis a safe jumper at hunting pace Md should improve quickly with experience.
