SOME EASY DECISIONS LADY LEIGH AND SCUFFLE [by telegraph—own correspondent] ; CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Scuffle had an easy win in the Novice Stakes, in which both Night Hawk and' Gillie were preferred to her, but Night Hawk was one of the slowest away. Gay Parade had a useful advantage entering the straight from Scuffle, Merry March, Night Hawk, Knight Commander, Ihe Wrecker and Gillie. Scuffle drew up to Gay Parade and carried on to win without pressure, while Merry March beat Gay Parade narrowly for second monev Night Hawk was two lengths away, in front of Gillie, The Wrecker and Knight .Commander. Drink Up was solidly supported to win the Brackenfield High-Weight, but ho was decisively beaten by Supreme Court, who had a three lengths' lead entering .the straight from Paper Note, Drink Up and Owlsgleam, in a bunch, with Bright Prospect handy. Supreme Court was never in danger and won with a good deal in hand. Paper Note held on to second place to within a few strides of the, post where Drink Up headed har. Bright Prospect was three lengths away, leading. Courtyard, Owlsgleam and Grampian. . „ I. The G. B. Starky Memorial Handicap proved a triumph for ( the lightweights, the first six .fudongs being run at almost three-quarter pace. Gillie was first to show out and he was alwavs in front. He was followed early bv Shirred Ribbon and Settlement, with Happy Night and .Drink Up in the rear. In a hard tussle, a head verdict from Settlement, with Shirred Ribbon only a neck away.' Rabble was two lengths back, in front of Drink Up, Happy Night and Marojia. The winner is a half-brother; to Scratchmere Scar and m-face of his poor race in the maiden event, his; victory came as a complete surprise. Financiere was a much better favourite than Lady Leigh for the bead6wn Handicap, -but after leading to the home turn she finished down the course. Lady Leigh carried on for a pointless victory. In a hard struggle for second money, Flame Queen just headed Glenacre, who got up in the last stride to 'beat Cocksure. Great Bramble was next. Very little pace was on until approaching the Jialf-mile post in the \mberley Handicap. Linguist, under a strong hold, led his three opponents until turning for home, where she was in trouble. Mungatoon gradually drew out to win handily from Davolo, who put in a sterling run to snatch second honours from Glenogil on the line.
