RETURNED SOLDIERS

TAKAPUNA CLUB MEETING .The second annual general meeting of the Takapuna and District Returned Soldiers' Club was held in _ the Memorial Hall last week. The retiring president, Mr. J. S. Wilcox, presided over an attendance of 65 members, i The balance-sheet shoived that the finances of the club were in a sound condition. The matter of the inadequacy of soldiers' pensions was discussed at length and it was decided to bring the matter before the annual meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. The following officers wore elected:— Patron, Mr. W. .T. Lvon, M.P.; president, Mr. S. James; vice-presidents, Messrs. Smart and Canton; secretary, Mr. Thomas; "treasurer. Mr. P. Reston; executive committee, Messrs. Williams, A. Collins, Vivian, Bayliss, Forrest, Young and Reaks. • WORK AT OTAHUHU ELECTION OF OFFICERS A successful year's activities were reported at the annual meeting of the Otahuhu and District Returned Soldiers' Association. The balance-sheet showed that over £4lO had been expended from the Poppy Day fund and. other sources in relief administration. The credit balance of the general account was £lO6. Appreciation of the record Poppy Day collection this year, when the proceeds amounted to £lB7 for the Otahuhu and Papatoetoe districts, was expressed in a resolution of thanks to the. ladies' committee and Mr. H. P. Lovell. who supervised the arrangements. It was reported that 15 new applications for membership liad been received for the meeting's approval, which was granted. Officers were elected as follows: — President. Mr. R. V. Closey; vice-pro* sidents, Mr. H. P. Lovell and Dr. J. ,T. Valentine; treasurer. Mr. H. Hayrj auditor. .Mr. R. .F. Wood; secret arv Mr. L. J.
