AUTUMN FASHIONS

RACING AT AVONDALE WET WEATHER FROCKING BRIGHTNESS OF ACCESSORIES Although intermittent and heavy showers marred the opening day of the Avondale Jockey Club's autumn meeting on Saturday, there was a large attendance of holidaj- visitors and enthusiastic racegoers, who made the most of the day suitably attired in tailored light-weight tweed suits and trim woollen frocks and furs. The hats were the most outstanding feature of the frocking. Of infinite variety, from the glengarry felt tam, the tall conical peaked, the swathed beret and the close-fitting turban, they gave an air of smartness and originality to the scene. Brightness and colour were lent to the otherwise sombre tonings with gay rubber capes, mackintoshes of all varieties and hues, and vivid matching umbrellas and accessories.
