The best realisation was £lO 5s for Jersey cows and other breeds sold freely between £8 and £lO. Backward springers received little attention and many were passed in. YARDING AT TE PUKE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports that at its fortnightly stock 6ale held at To Puke on Tuesday there was an average yarding of fat and store pigs. Porkers were slightly easier, but baconers sold well at late rates. Owing to the fact that expert buyers were not operating freely, values for fat cows and boners receded somewhat, and in most cases failed to reach vendors' reserves. The line of Polled Angus steers came forward in good order, but the demand was weak and the lot were passed in under the hammer. The following is a range of prices:—Heavy fat cows, £4 ISs to £5 13s; light, £3 12s to £4 lis; boners, £2 3s to £3 12s; small in-calf Jersey and Jfersey-cross hoifers, £4 5s to £5. MATAMATA PRICES FIRM The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports having held a sale at Matamata on Wednesday, when a full yarding of cattle came forward. A smaller offering of cow beef included only a small proportion of quality cattle, the entry comprising chiefly boner cows. Competition was firm for all classes, and a total clearance resulted at satisfactory rates. A smaller offering of potter bulls sold fully up to schedule rates. There was a small yarding of sheep, which sold at late rates. A full yarding of pigs came forward. The majority comprised porkers, thera being few top-weight baconers yarded. Competition for fats, baconers in particular, was steady and values were right up to those ruling at late sales. Porkers, however, wore not so keenly sought after, and showed a slightly easing tendency. Stores and weaners were dull of salo.
