INTER-HOUSE COMPETITION WIN FOR SMITH AND CAUGHEY The annual inter-house rowing fours contest held along tho waterfront road course yesterday afternoon was one of the most interesting of the series. There were three crews entered representing Milne and Choyce, Limited, John Court, Limited, and Smith and Caughey, Limited. The latter retained tho honours by a narrow margin. The personnel of the crows was as follows:—Smith and Caughey: J. B. Dickson (stroke), H. F. McLean, D. Woollams,. LSullings. John Court: R. Follas (stroke), M. Cooper, W. Clapham, K. Vincent. Milne and Choyce: W. G. Smith (stroke), H. Cloghorn, J. Goodwin, R. Johnston. Smith and Caughey jumped away at the start to lead from John Court, closoly followed by Milne and Choyce. Smith and Caughey still held command when the crews had settled down, but John Court challenged and threatened tho leader's position. Smith and Caughey, however, was ablo to keep ahead by a short distanco. On the approach to tho bend John Court moved up on the leader, which quickened pace to cope with tho challenge. It was a thrilling race on the run to the judge with John Court slightly improving its position at every stroke. With GO yards to go John Court mado a determined effort and was gaining fast when Smith and Caughey crossed to get the verdict by a quarter of a length. Milne and Choyce tailed tho field all tho way, but was not by any means inferior.
