OPENING OF SEASON ATTRACTIONS AT EDEN PARK PHYSICAL DRILL DISPLAY ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUBURBS The kick-off of the Rugby football season in Auckland to-morrow will take the form of a club gala _ day. There will bo five senior games at Eden Park and tJie principal attraction will be the meeting on No. 1 ground of the Ponsonby team, which last year annexed all the honours in the. grade, and Grammar Old lioys. The latter formed a strong combination last season and shows every prospect this year of making its presence felt. A close and interesting game is anticipated. North Shore and Marist 'will meet in the curtain-raiser to the main fixture. During the interval between . the games massed physical drill will bo performed by more than 500 students of Auckland Training College, while tho first battalion band of tho Auckland Regiment will also give a display. An additional feature will bo a club championship goal-to-goal race in football attiro, limited to three entries from each club College Rifles will play Suburbs on No. 2 ground at Eden Park at 3 p.m., while Training College and Technical Old Boys will occupy No. 3 ground at the same hour. This latter match will be preceded by one between Eden and Parnell. Patrons in suburban districts aro being well catered for Otahuhu will play University at Sturges Park at three o'clock, while at Onchunga the Manukau and Marist reserve teams will play a curtain-raisor to a match between Grafton and Manukau. There will also be two matches at Northcote, where Combined Services will meet North Shoro at 1.30 p.m. and Takapuna will Northcote at 3 p.m. Following are the teams: — COLLEGE RIFLES Senior Grade.—Kirk, McMaster, Sundberg, Woolloxall, Tilly, Dick, Abbott Connolly, Douglas, Trpwby, Sutherland, Graham, Pearson, Body, Barker, Wales, Olliver, Low. WHANGAREI SEASON OPENING TO-MORROW [by telegraph—OWN" correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday A meeting of the Whangarei Rugby Union management committee finalised arrangements for the commencement of the football season in the Whangarei" County on Saturday. Kugby Park, the union's own ground, is in splendid playing order for the start of the season, and with the additional stand accommodation erected < prior to tho Srinp<?boks' match there is now sufficient seating for spectators. Good nominations have been received in all grades, two new clubs having entered this season. Keen interest is being taken in the competition.

RODNEY UNION'S OFFICERS The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Rodney Rugby Union:—Patron, Mr. H. Raine; president, Mr. A. E. Vipond; vice-presidents. Messrs. F. H. Moss. G. H. Smith, R. V. Shaw, J. P. Smytheman. J. R. Hill, J. E. Jones. J. Scholium, W. Sharp; secretary, Mr. W. A. Armourj auditor, Mr. H. M. Smith; delegates, Messrs. E. R. Becroft, D. Jones; selector, Mr. E. R. Becroft. The expenditure last season exceeded the receipts by £23 15s 2d, due to smaller gate takings and the heavy demands made by players for insurance. Votes of thanks were passed to the following for the interest they had taken in the game in the county:—H. Becroft, H. Ferguson, R. Todd, H. Frear, R. McPherson. It was decided to open the season on May 7.
