MR. EDEN'S. FUTURE
Sir, Under the above heading in iilV- r -\r 8 .Herald a correspondent, \\ .M. criticises Mr. Wansev Bavlv for upholding Mr. Anthony Eden, "in his criticism, "W.M." asserts that, had been allowed to pursue his policy of sanctions, the Empire would ere now be involved in warfare. This statement clearly shows that your correspondent has no reliable information regarding international affairs. Had Britain frsm the outset resolutely stood lor sanctions, with the exception of ranee, all the nations would have stood by her. Even had the fear of war been real, with a Britisher and a Christian, moral values come before political expediency. Every concession mac e to a brutal aggressor brings the world a step, nearer to barbarism. If the present policy of always giving way to an aggressor is persisted in, it will only be a matter of a few years when we also will be subjected to the same brutal and unchristian* power. We, as a nation, are 90 per cent British and 90 per cent Christian; and unless we are to become a well disciplined and ! exceedingly obedient slave state from which Christianity has been banished, we must insist that the people who control our national affairs are Christian and of British parentage. Mr. Eden certainly has, by doing what was morally right, lost the chance of a brilliant diplomatic career, but he has retained his soul, and consequently is honoured by the Christians of all nations. C. W. H. Pickering.
