LABOURER PLEADS GUILTY COMPANION TO BE CHARGED Charged*with the theft of £3O 12s, the property of Charles Madley, on April 1, Gordon Robert Edwards, labourer, aged 22 (Mr. Noble), pleaded guilty in the Police Court be- [ fore Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yester--1 day. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said accused, a quarter-caste Maori, arrived in Auckland from Kaitaia on March 8, with £8 "in his possession. He spent his money; and fell in with a ship deserter, who told him of a plan to steal some money from the trawler Coast Guard. They went to the ship and the other stole the money. The3 T went to the Pukekohe show and to Wellington, the deserter supplying accused with money. In Wellington accused took £ls from the deserter, who threatened to-go to the police, but they shared it, and it had all - been spent. The deserter, who was aged 16, was to be dealt with in the Children's Court. "I have had a Maori from up North in here every day this week," said the magistrate. "They like tho bright lights of the city, and soon lose their money," remarked Mr. McHugh. Accused was remanded for a week.
