MISSIONS TO SEAMEN
ANNUAL MEETING HELD TRIBUTES TO PORT CHAPLAIN IVJany references to the excellent work of the port chaplain, the Rev. H. K. Vickery, and Mrs. Vickery, were macle by speakers at the annual meeting of the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, which was held on the- New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-vessel Rangitane last night. The activities of the chaplain's assistant, Mr. W. M. Mitchell, were also praised. Archbishop Averill presided at the gathering for the 24th year in succession. There was a large attendance. Apologies for absence were received from the patron, Viscount Galway, and from the Commodore of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, RearAdrniral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Viscount Galway; president, Archbishop Averill; vice-presidents, Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, Commander C. B. Tinley, Captain E. V. Hill, Captain E. Holland, Captain A. H. Davey, Captain H. L? Upton; board of management, Archbishop Averill, Captain H. H. Sergeant, Commander F. A. Hull, the Revjs. H. K. Vickery and G. V. Gerard, AFessrs. E. W. J. Bowden, F. H. Gifford, W. M. Jackson, «T. W. Manning, S. Reid, W. Skegg, P. S. Wallis, Mesdames Preston Chambers, E. H. B. Milsom and H. K. Vickery, with the Mayor and chairman of the Harbour Board as ex officio members; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. Skegg; f honorary solicitor, Mr. Manning; honorary auditor, Mr. C. Spencer White. The New Zealand Shipping Company and the master, Captain H. L. Upton, and* officers of the Rangitane were thanked for permitting the meeting to be held on the ship. At the conclusion of the business a musical programme, arranged by Mrs. F. H. Gifford, was given by the following:—Mrs. Gordon Nicholson, Misses D. Saunders and G. Stormont, Messrs. C. W. E. Wills, H. Hamilton and S, M. Clarke. Mrs. H. McCarty was accompanist. Amorfg those present at the meeting were the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, .the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, the Hon. T. Bloodworth, M.L.C., and the officer in charge of the Devonport Naval Base, Commander C. B. Tinleyi
