ACCOMMODATION NEEDED
CONCERN AT HAMILTON EFFECT ON ROYAL SHOW [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON*. Thursday "Unless something is clone in the near future to provide accommodation for Visitors'to the Koval Show, which is to be hold in Hamilton later in the year, there is a grave danger that the show Avill not be the success that is desired," said the chairman, Mr. IT. P. Caro. at last night's meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, when the inadequacy of hotel accommodation in Hamilton was under discussion. The Royal Show would probably bring about 500 .to 1000 people into the town for a week, and accommodation would have to be foujtd for them, Mr. Caro stated, if possible, Hamilton wanted to keep the visitors in the town, instead of sending thein out to other towns iri search ot lodgings. Jn reply to Mr. 13. H. Andrews, who stated that very few towns were in a position to cater fully for rush periods. •Mr. Caro said that at all times thcro was a deplorable shortage of accommodation in Hamilton. The matter had become serious and would have to be dealt with. Mr. At Gordon said the matter was at present boing considered by a subcommittee of the Hamilton Rotary Club, and he suggested that further consideration by the chamber should be deferred until the Rotary Clubs' decision was known. Jt was decided to write to the Government pointing out the shortage of accommodation in Hamilton, and requesting that the Licensing Act should be amended to make provision lor a larger proportion of accommodation at the licensed hotels in relation to. the size of the population.
