BOWLING
EASTER TOEENAMENT AUCKLAND CENTRE MATCHES TWO COMPETITIONS FINISHED Beautiful weather conditions prevailed yesterday for inter-section play in the four events on the Auckland Bowling Centre's Easter programme at the. Carlton Club's green. Two events, tho club's xecutive fours and tho intermediate fours were finalised. The Easter fours event was reduced to two teams, do Launay (Carlton) and Lancaster (Carlton). Tho final of tho first-year players' fours resulted in a tie and. under the rules, where a tie occurs in a final game, a full game must be played to decide the issue. The final of the Easter fours and first-year players' fours will, therefore, take place to-day on the Carlton green, play commencing at two o'clock. Mr. W. J. Truscott, president of tho Auckland Centre, presented tho prizes to the winners in the executive fours and intermediate fours at the conclusion of tho games. EXECUTIVE FOURS FINAL With a lead of 10—6 011 the 13th head, the Waiuku team appeared to have the game well in hand against Hallyburton-Johnstone, but the latter responded by faking the fol- j lowing five heads, with scores of 2, 1, 1, 3 j and 4, passing the opposition on the 18th head and taking the lead by 17—16. A three to Waiuku on tho 10th head made the coum J try team's position look more secure, but Hallyburton-Johnstone evened the tally with a score of two. With the scores even and the last head to play, the position was very interesting. Daniels paved the way lor the ultimate success of his team when he placed his first bowl right on the jack and followed with another close one. Bull, number two, put in a beautiful covering bowl to protect the lead's position on the head. In spite of raking shots by the Waiuku number three, E. S. Barriball, and the skip, Dr. Whiteside, the first bowls remained and! Dyson won a hardfought contest by two poirits. INTERMEDIATE FOURS FINAL In the final of the intermediate fours the Ponsonby team, in the name of Stewart, was really skipped by S'winton, who played in that position after the first day of section play. The game resulted in a comfortable win for .Ponsonhy. which scored on the first half-dozen heads, notching seven points. Brittain's Carlton team then took a hand and won the next three heads for four points. With 13 heads played the score was .10 —7 in Ponsonby's favour. From this point onward Ponsonhy maintained a steady advantage, principally as the result of White's leading and Swinton's good skipping work. FIRST-YEAR PLAYERS' FOURS The game between the Carlton and Mount Eden teams resulted in a thrilling finish, in which bowling of a very high standard was produced by the colts. On the 18th head the scores were equal, 15 —all.' On tho next head Mount Eden secured a single and then Carlton notched three, which made the latter two up with the last head to play. The Carlton lead held two close shots until Ackroyd, the Mount Eden No. 3, drew two fine shols inside them. With his last bowl the Carlton skip beat the Mount Eden second bowl and was only one down. Smith's final bowl, however, was the gem of the game, and one that would have done credit to many a senior player. He drew in to make Mount 'Eden two up and the game ended IS—all.
