SERIOUS EFFECTS

ASSAULT IN COMMONS SUFFERING OF VICTIM LONDON, April 7 Commander Robert Bower, the Conservative member of the House of Commons for Cleveland, who was struck in the face by the Seaharn Labour member, Mr. E. Shinwell, in the course of the debate on the Labour censure motion on the Government's foreign policy on Monday, is still in bed. He is being attended by an ear specialist. The blow caused internal bleeding between the layers of the left eardrum, resulting in a haematoma (blood tumour), which burst on the following day, tearing the drum. Fortunately the burst was outward. The bleeding has now ceased, but the patient's condition is causing anxiety.
