BATHER'S DEATH

COLLAPSE IN WATEE BODY FOUND FLOATING RESIDENT OF MARAETAI A well-known resident of Maraetai, Mr. John Clarence Grant, a retired tramways employee, aged 71, died while swimming at Maraetai Beach yesterday morning. Mr. Grant, accompanied by his wife, went to the beach about 9.20. Mrs. Grant remained iu the shallow water near the shore, but hei husband swam out to a launch moored about 100 yards away.

Mr. Grant reached the launch and shortly after was seen floating motionless. A party went out in a boat and brought him ashore and artificial respiration was applied without success until the arrival *of Dr. H. H. Cheeseman, of Clevedon. He found that Mr. Grant was dead.
