MANAGER RETIRES

ME. A. CEEUTTY CAREER IN SHIPPING FORTY-EIGHT YEARS' SERVICE The retirement yesterday of Mr. A, Cerutty, manager of the Auckland branch of Huddart-Parker, Limited, ended a service of 48 years with the company in Australia and New Zealand.

Mr. Cerutty joined the company's service in Melbourne in 1890 and three years later was appointed purser to the Lindus. He has vivid recollections of his two years on the vessel, because it served Australian ports during the t;old rushes at Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie. During the next six years, he was on the Melbourne-New Zealand run, serving in the Anglian, Elingamite, Westralia, Zealandia and Burrumbeet.

After 11 years at sea, Mr. Ceruttv was appointed supervisor of labour and cargo delivery for the agents of the company at Auckland. In 1910, he hecame chief clerk of the Wellington branch, and some five years later was made manager in Dunedin. On the death of the Auckland manager, Mr,. D, liyan, in 1921, Mr. Ceruttv was appointed as his successor and in this position he has remained during the past 17 years.

For many years, Mr. Ceruttv was a member of the Titirangi Golf Club. H? is at present a member of the Epsom Bowling Club.

The vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. Ceruttv has been filled temporarily by the appointment of Mr. C. H. Taylor as acting-mansiger. Mr. Taylor has been chief clerk in the Auckland office of the company since 1927. He joined the service of Huddart-Par-ker, Limited, in Auckland some 20 years ago. In 1922, he was transferred to AVellington, where he remained until his appointment five years later as chief clerk in the Auckland branch.
