MAORI FARMERS
TENURE OF HOLDINGS CONSIDERATION BY BOARD [by telegraph OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday According to advice received from the acting-Minister of Native Affairs,, the Hon. F. Langstone, the Board of Native Affairs is still considering the question of the tenure upon which settlers on Maori land development schemes will take over unit holdings. The matter is of considerable interest in the Botorua district and in the Horohoro area, which was the first area to be brought under development. In this district a number of Maori farmers have now reached tho stage where they are ready to take over unit farms. In a letter dealing with the matter the Minister stated that the form of tenure to be ultimately granted to settlers on Maori land development schemes generally had been under consideration by the Board of Native Affairs for some timo past, but no definite conclusion had yet been reached. The matter had many difficulties, but tho Board of Native Affairs hoped shortly to bo in a position to grant tenures to Maori farmers in terms of the Native Land Amendment Act, 1936, especially in those cases where the consolidation of the lands had assisted in simplifying titles.
