MR. J. H. O'DONNELL WELLINGTON RETIREMENT [by telegraph—own corresponded] WELLINGTON, Thursday After haiving completed 4G years in the Public Service, Mr. J. H. O'Donnell retired to-day from the position of .Assistant Under-Secretary of Lands. Born at Burke's, near Dunedin, Mr. O'Donnell was appointed to the Lands Department in 1892 as a cadet in the Wellington office. In 1899 he was transferred to the Land Audit Office in the head office, and in tlie same year he was for a period acting receiver of land revenue. . >
Subsequently, Mr. O'Donnell 1 relieved iu this capacity at Auckland, Dunedin and Napier. From 1904 to 1914 he was receiver of land revenue at Gisborne, Napier and Auckland.
In conjunction with the Public Service Commissioners, Mr. O'Donnell in 1914 carried out a series of inspections of various offices in the Public Service, _ and in 1915 he was appointed to the 5 ' position of chief accountant at the head office. In 1925 he was appointed Controller of Accounts when the position was created, and continued in that capacity until he was appointed Assistant .Under-Secretary of Lands on November 1, 1935. For some time Mr. O'Donnell has been chairman of the Central Revaluation Board, which has dealing with the adjustment of rents under the Mortgagors and Lessees Final Rehabilitation Act.
Mr. R. G. MacMorran has been appointed to succeed Mr. O'Donnell.
