OWNER'S UNLUCKY DAY GOOD STAKE AND BET LOST The Waikato owner-breeder Mr. A. J. McGovern has reason to regard last Thursday as one of his unlucky days, as his good mare Stretto received an unlucky run in the Thompson Handicap at Trentham and Rulette was disqualified for the race after winning the St. Patrick's Handicap at Paeroa owing to her rider weighing in more than 21b -overweight. Air. McGovern gave 400 ' guineas to repurchase Rulette, whom he bred, on February 28 and the loss of Thursday's race was unfortunate fOr him. The stake wa* worth £2OO to the winner and in addition Mr. McGovern had a small investment on Rulette that would have made him a fine return at the double figure dividend. she was paying. SCRATCHING OF MALA LADY CAV RETIRED TO STUD '' SVdNEY, March 'lB Mala lias fceen scratched from en-* gagements at the Randwick meeting. His condition is too backward. Lady Cav has- been scratched from the Doncaster Handicap and she is to be retired to the stud.
