CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS WAGES AND HOURS DEADLOCK [BT TELEGRAPH —rRESS association] WELLINGTON, Wednesday When the Conciliation Council this morning resumed the hearing of the application by workers in the grocery business for a Dominion award, Mr. I'. D. Corn well, advocate for the workers, raised the question of a 40-hour fiveday week, which in turn brought up the related question of wages. The employees' proposals on a 40-hour fiveday week were not acceptable to the employers any more than the employers proposal on a 44-liour five and ahalf day week were acceptable to the workers, and neither side would accept the offer of tho other. With regard to wages there was agreement on a number of minor clauses, and those outstanding. "besides the questions of wages and hours, will be referred to the Court of Arbitration.
