CHARGE DISMISSED

PUTARURU MOTORIST COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE [by telegraph OWN- correspondent]) TE KUITI, Wednesday "I cannot help thinking,' that the defendant is very fortunate," said Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in dismissing a charge of dangerous driving against John Donald Piercy, of Putaruru, in the Te Kuiti Magistrate's Court to-day. The action arose from a collision between a car driven by defendant and another driven by Miss E. N. Houphton, of Wellington, on December 23, seven miles north of Te Kuiti. A traffic-inspector, F. Cook, said marks showed conclusively that Piercy had been taking up three parts of the road, and that the other car was on its left'when the accident occurred. This was admitted by defendant, who said that, although hp was travelling at only about 20 miles an hour at the corner, the back wheels of his car suddenly went into a iskid. He contended that the skid was caused by the very heavy camber on the road and the loose metal. "It is hard to understand why the defendant's car should skiid in this way without an application of the brakes," said the magistrate;-in dismissing the information.
