BRILLIANT SPEED
TWO FUELONGS IN 22S POKER DICE AT TAKANINI IMPROVEMENT OF FELDBERG The middle grass track was available for galloping at Takanini yesterday morning. The horses worked over the correct distance but the times were not fast, with the exception of Poker Dice, who ran his last quarter of a four-furlong gallop in brilliant fashion. Vaals Star finished five lengths in front of Bed Ledger at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 l-ss. They came home the Inst three furlongs in 37 l-ss. Paddy the Hip (Bartlo) went pleasingly over five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. occupying 38 l-5s lor the last three. Pamela (Collett) was too good for Seiga (Stratton) over six furlongs run in 1.19, the last three in 40 2-ss. Seiga moved short prior to galloping. Brazilian (Parkinson) worked fast up the straight. High Sea (Mudford), in taking 1.4 3-5 lor five furlongs, was much too good for Asset (T. Green). Finishing three lengths in front under a good hold, he took 40s for the last three furlongs. Ihis three-j 7 ear-old looks very well. Solitary (Curwen), Nordic Song (Hatwell) and Milauion (Mudford) finished in that order, with Milanion on the outside, but with very little between them at the conclusion of four ! furlongs, in 51 3-ss. They took 37 l-5s ! for the last threo furlongs. Rayjana (Stratton) ran four furlongs in 52 l-ss, but he was tiring, the last threo taking 38 4-os. This was his nrst gallop since coming to Takanini. Poker Dice. (G. Smith) jumped awav at the five-rurlong post, and went four furlongs in 48 2-ss, running the last two in the brilliant time of 225. . 1 arquet (Curwen) was half a length in front of Feldberg (Walters), who led by several lengths over the first quarter in 245, and completed six furlongs in 1.17 4-5. They took 40s to run the last three. This was Feldberg's best gallop to date. The Paladin—Capable mare (Hatwell) ran five furlongs in I.S 2-5, the last three in 38 3-ss. O ,^ c !', a (Walters) and Golden bpahi •(Mcllroy) jumped four flights of hurdles well, completing a round from fence to fence in 1.57. Huntsman's Chorus, jumping two fences, gave T. Green his first experience over the obstacles. He gave a good display. Anagram (Mcllroy) was led by Flash By (Walters) over the first two of four fences, the round being run in 2m. Flash By jumps very quickly, but as yet does not stay we'll. The only horse to be timed on the plough was Inver (Stewart), who ran his last five furlongs in 1.8.
ELLEKSLIE TBACK KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA FIT ROUND BY ROYAL APPELLANT | Among the candidates for the FrankI lin meeting who shaped well at EllersI lie yesterday yiorning were Knight of j Australia and Ohmaha, who sprinted I smartly over half-a-mile and Royal j Appellant and Ringshot, who were reI sponsible solid work-out over a | round. The No. 2 grass was available ! and was in excellent order. Captain Bruce (Clarko) ran the last four of five furlongs in 53 2-ss. Tho Romney—Thurnley gelding (Gilchrist) was not, troubled to complete five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. This promising novice is down to make his debut on Saturday. Knight of Australia (Clarke) pleased by sprinting half-a-mile in 50 2-ss. Ho moved freely and tho racing at Te Aroha evidently has done him no harm. Pasture (Gilchrist) finished several lengths in front of the Illumination gelding (Jones) at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 2-5, the first two furlongs being run in 24 3-ss. Pasture went well, tho Illumination geldiug being 'eased over the last furlong. Bonny Belle (Clarke) reeled off three furlongs m 38 l-ss. Palm int. (Gilchrist) was too good for Master Appellant (Cameron) over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, the last three taking 38 1-os. Bronze Wing (Metcalfe) strode over six furlongs easily in 1.2 U. He is very well. Neil (Stokes) beat Psychologist (Neil) over a round in 1.52 2-5. Rosant (Jones) led High Star (Dulieu) at the end of five furlongs, the last four being run in 52 2-ss. Rosant, a filly by Versanti shows fair speed. Tybalt (Gilchrist) was going well a length ahead of Aero Queen (Tremain) at tho conclusion of six furlongs in 1.16 3-5. They ran the first three in 37 2-ss. Tybalt is in good order for his Franklin Cup engagement, while Aero Queen has made improvement. School Song and Mai do Mer (Tremain) were on terms at tho end of six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, the first three taking 37 2-ss. Both appeared to be doing it well at the finish. Ringshot (Jones) and Royal Appellant (Murray) traversed a round in 1.44 3-5, tho last six furlongs being run in 1.17 2-5. They wore both going well at tho finish and Royal Appellant pulled up sound. Ringshot looks in capital order. Gay Broney (Fearn) assisted by Jolie Dance (Treinain) over the last six furlongs, completed a round in 1.45 2-5. The six furlongs occupied 1.18 4-5. Te Hai (Manson) was going easily throughout half-a-milo in 53 l-ss. Ohmaha (Murray) sprinted a similar distance in 50 2-ss. He was not bustled and is bearing an improved appearance after his recent racing. Jack Tar (Green) strode out freely at a strong pace over a circuit on the tan. He is now bearing a much more solid appeax - - ance.
HURDLES AT ELLERSLIE PROPOSALS FROM JOCKEYS Tho executive of tho Now Zealand Jockeys' Association is approaching tho committee of the Auckland Racing Club with a view to making proposals regarding the hurdles in use at Ellerslie.
