RUGBY IN SCHOOLS
WELLINGTON SUGGESTIONS One result of the last meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Football Council is that the position in regard to school football in New Zealand is being investigated bv a special sub-committee, of which Mr. .G. A. Maddison, of llawke's Bav, is chairman. The Wellington Rugby Union's management committee had before it at its latest meeting a request from Mr. Maddison for any suggestions as to what might be done to encourage school football.
The matter was discussed at some length, and it was decided to make several points in reply to the request., the decisions being on the following lines: — 1. That information be supplied showing exactly what the Wellington Rugby Union does for school football. 2. That a suggestion be made that the book, School Football, in up-to-date form, be issued to the schools, the book to have special reference to scrummage play with information based upon observations made during the recent tour by the South African Rugby team. 3. That the New Zealand Rugby Union endeavour to see that the schoolboys of the Dominion get full value for the money voted for school football—a matter of £750 annually. In this connection it was pointed out that something might he done in Ihe matter of contracts for the supply of a standard ball for the schools.
