SCENERY PRAISED

DOMINION ATTRACTIONS Eulogistic references to the scenic attractions of New Zealand were made recently by Mr. James Payne, who was until very lately assistant Australian Trade Commissioner in the Dominion. Mr. Payne will arrive by the Awatea from Wellington this morning, and leave in the afternoon for Sydney. He has been appointed Australian Trade Commissioner in Egypt. Mr. Payne is accompanied by Mrs. Payne. "I have travelled extensively in New Zealand during my three years' stay, and have learned to love the beauties of the mountain and lake country, which are outstanding features," said Mr. Payne. "Two weeks ago it was my pleasure to visit the Eglington Valley and it needs little imagination to visualise what a great scenic drive will be opened up on the completion of the Homer tunnel. "The New Zealand Government has given me a set of filni3 and Maori records which will be used by mo in Australia during the next two months and later in Egypt," added Mr. Payne. Mr. Payne expressed his regret at having to leave the Dominion and said that he would have liked to take part in the centennial celebrations in 1940, but s"id that he may be of service in advertising this important event overseas.
