CARGO WORK DISPUTE
EAST COAST DEADLOCK TWO SHIPS STILL IDLE THE AWAHOU AND MAKO [bt telegbaph—OWN correspondent] . XAPIER. Thnrsday No work has yet been done on Richardson and Company's vessels Awahou and Mako at Napier and Gisborne respectively as a result of the dispute which occurred at the week-end over the rights of members of the watersiders' and seamen's unions to work cargo on small coastal vessels. A communication from the Minister of Marine, the Hon. P. Fraser, expressing his determination to end the dispute and his intention of calling a further conference of the two parties at Wellington to-morrow was received to-day in Napier. The Napier Chamber of Commerce has sent the following telegram to the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong:—"The chamber emphatically protests against the holding up of industry because of a ridiculous dispute between the Waterside Workers' and Seamen's Unions in coastal shipping. We urge you to use pressure to compel immediate resumption of work, which is vital to the welfare of the district." f*
