RAND GRAND PRIX
WON BY AN AUSTIN SEVEN The Rans Grand Prix, one of South Africa's most important racing events, has been won by an Austin Seven driven by D. van Riot. The event was run over tho Lord Howe circuit at Johannesburg, tho race comprising fifty laps, a total distance of 121.52 miles. Many famous racing drivers competed, including Raymond Mays, (E.R.A.) Lord Howe, (E.R.A.) and Count Lurani, (Maserati). Tho Austin Seven, which was a side-vnlvo supercharged single-seater, was the smallest car in tho race. Driving the same car, van Riet won the £IOO award for the first South African driver to finish in the Cape Town Grand Prix, last January, when the Auto Union team competed. His team of Austin sevens recently secured the team award in tho Kimberloy Hundred Raco with Ist., 3rd. and Bth. places. He is claimed to be the 'most consistently successful racing motorist in I South Africa.
